Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are a driving force at Y.O.U.T.H. of Wilson County, giving generously of their time, talents, and resources in a variety of ways.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:

Mentor a young person:

  • Spend time with a young person who needs a positive adult role model
  • Provide support, counsel, friendship, and skill development
  • Commit 2 hours per week or 8 hours a month for one year to spend with your young friend
  • Must be 18 years or older and have a valid NC driver's license
  • Reliable transportation and a criminal background check are required
  • Training and on-going support are provided

Involve your civic club, youth group or other organization:

  • Organize a group mentoring project
  • Sponsor a youth to attend summer camp
  • Organize a hands-on project
  • Provide a work opportunity for a young person looking for employment
  • Become a certified Y.O.U.T.H. of Wilson Community Service worksite

Be a One-Time Do-Gooder: (Short-term or one-time assignments)

  • Clerical support
  • Computer and technology support
  • "Adopting" a family or child for the holidays
  • Provide school supplies
  • Help tutor a child

Organize a Charity of Choice Event:

  • Designate Y.O.U.T.H. of Wilson County as your charity of choice by organizing a workplace or organization fundraiser, bake sale, food drive, yard sale, or campaign

Internships:

  • Gain valuable experience working with "at-risk" youth in our community service/restitution program and the one-on-one mentoring program. This is an unpaid position but a great opportunity to get experience in the criminal justice, social work, or other human services field.

Be a Board Member:

  • Bring your skills, knowledge and wisdom to Y.O.W.
  • Attend one monthly board meeting per month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm the first Wednesday of each month
  • Participate in fundraising events we hold
