MATCH Programs
Tammy Armstrong (Governor’s One-on-One Volunteer Program Director)
Angie Holloman (MATCH Prevention Program Coordinator)
The MATCH One-on-One volunteer programs, which include a Governor's One-on-One Volunteer Program and a locally funded Prevention Component, match young people who are experiencing trying times with positive adult role models. Primarily the NC Department of Juvenile Justice and the United Way of Wilson County fund them. Volunteers work one-on-one eight hours a month for one year with their young friend. They enjoy activities such as sporting events, boating, fishing, skating, cooking, working in the yard, tossing a football, swimming, planting a garden, or simply good conversation. The young friend can be included in positive activities. The role of the adult is to be a special friend, to help the young person build self-confidence, and to give positive examples so our youth will make positive choices.
Wilson County Community Service/Restitution Program
Denarra Edwards (Community Service/Restitution Program Director)
Angel Corpening (Community Service / Restitution Program Coordinator Assistant)
The Wilson County Community Service/Restitution Program is funded by a NC Department of Juvenile Justice Community-Based Alternatives grant and Wilson County. This program holds juvenile offenders of the law accountable for damages caused to victims or the community due to their criminal behavior. Once juveniles have been adjudicated in the court system or diverted at intake, they may be ordered to perform uncompensated community service or compensated restitution to repay damages. The program goal is two-fold: (1) to aid in the rehabilitation of juveniles, redirecting them from further court involvement; and (2) to give back to the community for loss suffered. This program serves an average of 150 young people per year who work in local nonprofit and governmental agencies while gaining work experience and assuming responsibility for their actions.

Y.O.U.T.H. Focus
Y.O.U.T.H. Focus offers young people an array of options and life choices by providing workshops on age-related issues. The young people have the chance to hear first hand from people who have experienced drug addiction, alcoholism, violence and crime. We also have people in the professional field that can offer their expertise on acquiring jobs, attaining life skills and learning educational skills.
Y.O.U.T.H. of Wilson County is a moving force because of a caring staff and dedicated volunteers who take time to help. Young people face many difficult decisions and peer pressure, but one special friend can make the difference. The programs that are offered are the only one of its kind here in Wilson County. If you can give the greatest gift of all- friendship- please call, email, write, or drop by our office and someone will be more than willing to be of assistance. Remember this.. our youth today are our future tomorrow!!
